Rhinebeck Prep

I spent tonight getting ready for Rhinebeck.  I'll be out tomorrow after work, so I knew I needed to get things together tonight.  What's left for tomorrow is to get patterns (that I want to shop for yarn for) printed, get food together for the weekend, and last-minute stuff that I can't pack until after I use it in the morning (toiletries and such).

And, of course, I'm packing some knitting to take with me.

I'm exciting since I had to miss Rhinebeck last year.  And I'll get to see Ria.  Yay!

Shopping for Work Clothes

A quick one because time is limited.

Rachel and I did well today.  Between Goodwill and Kohl's I scored four pair of pants and seven tops (well, six blouses and a sweater to wear over blouses, especially over sleeveless types of things).  All for just under $50!

And Mom and Rachel got to bond on the phone about how awful I am to shop with.  Mom correctly predicted how I react to certain things, and when Rachel said, "Yep!" Mom said, "I'd drive off and leave her there."

Hmph.

Wednesday Weigh-In

I gained another 0.6 pounds.  And now I'm even more confused.  Because my current jeans no longer fit, so I went through some jeans I have and found some jeans that are a size down that my mom had bought me last year and tried those on.  They seemed more comfortable, but when I wore them around today to run errands with Rachel, I kept having to hike them up.  So I'm clearly losing inches.

But in the past two weeks, I've gained more than a pound so I'm more than a little annoyed.  We'll see.

Today was spent with Rachel.  We ran some errands out by her house (in the City Line area).  I had a coupon for Chili's so we had lunch out there, and then we used a Groupon I had for an Ethiopian place for supper.  Sooooo good.

AND... I finished another knitting project!  More on that Friday!

Wednesday Weigh-In

This week I lost a whopping 0.2 pounds!  lol  (You know you're jealous.)

Earlier today, Rachel came over and we ran some errands.  I decided I wanted a new shredder.  We went to Staples and a new shredder was acquired.  Then we went to Target and got a few other things.  It was nice, too, because we got to talk about some crap going on in my life with a couple of people, and Rachel is always a great person to process with.  A quick stop at McDonald's for a lunch, and then we were set to come back to my place to accomplish the main point of today: listing a crapload of books on eBay to sell.

Thanks to my friend Diana who had given me some really helpful tips and tricks, Rachel and I pulled all of the books from my "books that need a home" bookshelf and set up a system.  Rachel looked up books on her laptop, slapped information on a sticky note, passed it to me, and I posted the books on eBay.  Since Rachel was much faster than I, when she was done, she started reading the info off to me to type in, which made it go even faster.

When we were done, we ate at an Ethiopian place for supper.  Yum.  The guy who runs the place probably thinks I can't cook because I'm there so often.  But Rachel and I were originally going to eat at a different place, but when we got there, it was closed for maintenance.  Boo.

In the meantime, we had a peach cobbler in my Crock Pot for dessert.  We were so full when we came back, we watched some trash tv for awhile (clearing the TiVo FTW!) and then ate the cobbler.  It was a new recipe that I want to play with before I post it, so you'll have to wait; sorry.

The best news?  Before the night was over, I had already sold two books!  My local friends have already browsed my books, but for out-of-town friends, if you're interested in seeing what's for sale, drop me a line and I'll send you the eBay link.

The Week: Looking Back, Looking Forward

This past week has been largely uneventful, except that I turned in official notice to turn off my COBRA health insurance at the end of this month.  I knew this was coming, but it was still a gulp-inducing moment to get the official notice that said that as of 01 June 2011, I would have no health insurance.  Eesh.

Yesterday, Rachel came over.  We picked up my Angel Food boxes, which meant that I spent part of last night and today processing (cleaning, chopping, properly storing for maximum freshness, etc.) the produce.  I like to do this all at once so I can get the bulk of the garbage out of the house all at once, and it's all done so when I go to cook, I can get down to it.

Rachel and I hadn't planned ahead with what to cook, so we cheated and ordered in a pizza.  For dessert, I made a batch of chocolate chip cookies.  We finished the Top Chefs: All-Stars season, and then we watched a few episodes of Millionaire Matchmaker, which is a show I've sucked her into.  It's so much fun to watch millionaires have the same problems trying to find love that the rest of us do (and sometimes fail even worse than the rest of us do!).  And we discuss the advice that Patti (the matchmaker) gives her clients.

This coming week, I've got physical therapy on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Tuesday evening, I'll see my friend Anju so she can pick up her share of the Angel Food stuff.  Wednesday, my friend Megan are going to hang out.

And, that, my friends, is the über-exciting life of me!

Med Student's birthday

Yesterday was Rachel's birthday.  Since she was busy doing some pretty important things (like choosing a dress for her wedding), I took her for a celebratory supper tonight.  We did our traditional sushi outing at AKI in Centre City.

We made a couple of stops along the way first, which resulted in a quick trot through the city.  I snagged some black toner at Staples, successfully remembering to redeem my six dollars in Staples Rewards before they expired (SCORE!), and then a quick stop at CVS.  I needed to pick up my meds and Rachel needed a greeting card.

Then AKI where it was more crowded than we expected for a Wednesday evening.  We ended up being seated between two entertaining tables.  First, a bit of background.  When Rachel had called earlier in the day, I started coughing quite a bit, and I told her that I was generally only coughing when I talked.  So we should eat supper in silence.  Or we could eat supper and text each other all night.

So it was pretty funny when the one of the two women at the table next to us wouldn't put her phone down.  I tipped my head toward her and said to Rachel, "You know, that could have been us."  Rachel said, "It still can!" and promptly began texting me.

A little while after that, the restaurant sat a party of five (ah, PO5, a show I rarely watched but always heard about) on the other side of us, but perpendicular to us.  I told Rachel that I wasn't sure why, but the people were annoying me.  Then Rachel put her finger on it - they had brought a small child with them.  Ah - that's what it was.

While this restaurant isn't extremely posh, it's a relatively nice place, and isn't really a child-friendly restaurant.  So while we're trying to enjoy a nice night out, we're hearing "AND THEN THE GAME DOES THIS!  AND THEN THE GUY GOES LIKE THIS!!!  AND THEN!" while his mom and her friends all use their kid voices to talk to him all evening.  Whee.

Of course, Rachel and I being who we are, we made the best of it by doing what we do best... having fun anyway.  ;)
